Because of the global coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), we are living in exceptional times. Several festivals, concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, museum visits and many other events and activities have already been moved or have been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 measures. Others are currently hanging by a thread. The unpredictability of this global crisis makes it impossible to say with certainty what the future will look like, and under what conditions events and activities can continue.
Many hardworking and passionate artists, companies, associations and people from the cultural sector are facing particularly difficult times. The entire sector will therefore have to remain resilient and hopeful in order to overcome this crisis. Support from you, our visitors, is crucial for the sector to emerge stronger from this.
As a consumer, normally you are entitled to a refund of the purchase price of your ticket(s) in the event of cancellation. However, the current corona crisis has an enormous financial impact on the entire sector. Festivals, concert halls, theatres, museums, organizers, etc. can go bankrupt if every ticket buyer requests a refund. For this reason, the Belgian government recently adopted a number of measures* that allow the use of vouchers instead of refunds.
Through this website, we will try to explain what these measures mean for you as a consumer, and we will try to answer all of your questions. What are your rights; what are the rights of the organizers and perhaps more importantly, what are the measures taken by the government to ensure that your favourite event, venue and artist can survive these uncertain times, and what you can do to support them.
